What steps should I take to get compensation from my car accident?
I was in a left turn lane in a borrowed car that has liability insurance coverage only, when a lady driving a SUV crossed 2 lanes of traffic to get into the turn lane and she didn't see me and ploughed into the passenger side two doors and middle post. She gave police her insurance card and it appeared to be current, we find out from her insurance company that she hadn't paid her premium and she was out of her grace period when the accident happened. The insurance company did renew her policy after she paid the premium the day after the accident. But they won’t cover the claim for the day of accident. How do I get her to pay for damages to my friend’s car? What’s my next step?

Whenever you are in an accident, you sue the individual, not their insurance company. When you purchase insurance, the insurer is agreeing to step in on your behalf to represent you in the claim and then they typically either settle the case through negotiation or send their lawyers to court to defend you on the claim. However, there is no reason that you cannot sue the person directly. The big issue is whether or not the person has any assets to go after. Speak to an attorney and let them look to see if there are any assets to go after.
